Your first conversation
- Choose a display name. Close this guide and enter a name your friend will recognize.
- Create one room. Click New private room, then the copy invitation icon in the conversation header.
- Share the invitation privately. Your friend opens this same website, types a quieter day on its own line in Notes, presses Enter, and pastes the invitation into Room invitation.
- Join and say hello. Your friend clicks Join conversation. Both names should appear under In this room.
Only one person creates the room. Everyone else joins using that room’s invitation.
Invitations & rejoining
The invitation starts with folio2.. Copy the entire string without changing it. It contains your room’s encryption key: anyone who has it can join, so share it through a trusted private channel.
Keep a private copy if you want to rejoin. Refreshing or returning to the planner clears your room from the interface; reveal the private area again and paste the invitation to return.
Rooms and invitations expire 24 hours after room creation. Create a new room after expiry, or to exclude someone who has the old invitation. Display names are not verified identities.
Sending messages & expiry
Type in the message box. Enter sends; Shift + Enter adds a new line. Messages normally arrive within a few seconds. If sending fails, your draft remains available to retry.
Each message expires one hour after it was sent. Reading it does not restart the timer. The time beside the message shows how long remains.
A room supports up to 8 recently active people and 500 unexpired messages. Automatic cleanup checks every minute while the backend is running. Screenshots, copied text, and provider backups are outside this deletion guarantee.
Starting & answering audio calls
- Both people join the same room and keep Folio open.
- Click the phone icon beside the other person’s name.
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks.
- The other person clicks Answer in Folio and allows their microphone.
- Use Mute or End in the call banner.
Calls are one-to-one audio, even in a larger room. No extra call codes are needed. There are no push notifications; the recipient should already be in the room.
Switching tabs or apps ends calls by default. To keep a call open while switching, open Privacy settings and turn off Return to planner when hidden before calling. Turn it back on afterward if you want automatic locking.
Some networks need a TURN relay. This setup does not include one. If chat works but calls do not connect, try another network. Live audio should be tested between two devices.
Return to the planner & change your phrase
Click Return to planner or press the backtick key ` while the webpage has focus. This ends calls, stops microphone use, clears the room key and messages from the app’s current state, and attempts to leave the room.
It does not undo sent messages, clear your clipboard, erase browser history, or remove provider records. Refreshing also starts in planner mode.
To change the reveal phrase, open Privacy settings, enter a new phrase, and select Save phrase on this device. It changes only this browser/device. Use the new phrase on its own line in Notes afterward.
The phrase reveals the interface; the invitation controls room access. Use the Guide button in the private header to reopen these instructions anytime.
Tasks, notes & planner backups
Select a day in the calendar or week strip, click Add a task, enter a title and optional time, category, and priority, then save. Mark tasks complete as you finish, or edit and delete them when plans change.
My day shows the selected day, This week groups seven days, and Notes opens a larger scratchpad. Notes save automatically. Back to today returns to today’s date.
Tasks and notes stay in this browser on this device; they do not automatically sync. Clearing site data can remove them. Open planner preferences to Export planner backup or Import planner backup. Import adds tasks and replaces the scratchpad after confirmation. Private conversations and invitations are excluded.
Something isn’t working?
- The phrase does nothing
- Put it on its own line in Notes and press Enter. Check whether you saved a different phrase on this device.
- We cannot see each other
- Join using the same invitation. Creating two rooms creates two separate conversations.
- Invitation or room access expired
- Try rejoining with the invitation. If the room is more than 24 hours old, create a new one.
- Too many requests
- Wait before retrying. Avoid repeatedly refreshing.
- No call button
- The other person must be connected and recently active in the same room.
- Microphone or call problem
- Check microphone permissions. Keep the page visible, or adjust automatic locking. Try another network if the call cannot connect.
- Tasks missing on another device
- Transfer them with a planner backup; planner data does not sync.
What privacy means here
Message content and call signaling are encrypted in your browser. The invitation contains the key. Recipients can still copy content; names, membership, timing, and infrastructure logs are metadata.
Guest sign-in is not network anonymity. Direct call peers may learn your IP address. The hidden interface is discoverable in the site’s source. This custom implementation has not undergone an independent security audit.
